Ep. 135: A Parks and Recreation Pandemic Special

Goodness, this is a weird one. But would you expect anything less from the FINAL EPISODE EVER?!

The Parks and Rec crew reunite several years after the series finale, hosting a handful of Gryzzl one-on-one and conference calls. All of our favorites are here — Leslie and Ron have a couple of touching heart-to-hearts and Donna is looking exceptionally good with her gorgeous lighting in her closet. We’ve got lots of fun cameos from folks like Councilman Jamm, Dennis Feinstein, Joan Callamezzo, Perd Hapley, and Jean-Ralphio, who is flush with cash but INCREDIBLY bored. If only that fake phone number actually worked…

Meanwhile, the writers have to get creative on how show couples like Ann and Chris and April and Andy can’t be seen together. If you rewatch this episode, you may notice a couple of the very overused phrases like “these trying times,” but hey, we didn’t know what was to come back then. Plus, this episode raised at least $3 million for Feeding America, which is fantastic.

Plus, we dive into popular club hits from the late 00s and early 10s, put on a ton of wacky sound effects, and discuss the people who have won an EGOT (they’re hard to guess!). Also, does Sean need to buy himself a coffee machine?

Doing this podcast has been a blast and we’ve loved hanging out with you every week. But this isn’t goodbye forever. We’ve got some cool things planned — keep an eye here and on Facebook and Twitter for updates!

Ep. 84: This is Garbage

We may be social distancing, but we’re not letting that get us down! And perhaps it’s fitting that the world is knee-deep in garbage, because we’re covering the episode “Women in Garbage” today. Sean is far away and sounds a bit like he’s in a well, but we’re doing our best with what we can, people.

For some reason, Ron once again has to play babysitter for his girlfriend, Diane, Warrior Princess. She can’t seem to find adequate care for her children! Luckily, Ron’s got Ann on his side, and she’s terrible at watching kids, too. Meanwhile, Leslie and April are picking up garbage to show they’re just as proficient as men when it comes to tackling sanitation needs. Oh, and Andy and Ben are trying to teach Tom how to play basketball. Spoiler alert: it doesn’t go well.

Plus, frustration with the government, dumb people that blatantly ignore useful rules, and we provide some activities you can do while practicing social distancing. And Haleigh gets SUPER heated during her Top 5. Take a listen!

Ep. 76: Pawnee Porpoises and Therapy Sessions

Leslie is trying to keep a pool open for the Pawnee Porpoises youth swim team, but she has to jump through quite a few hoops to make it happen. Classic Jeremy Jamm ruining our plans. Ben and April are stuck in a parking garage for the entire episode. Ron goes on a date with a woman that’s not named Tammy. WHAT?! Chris Traeger has a therapist now, so that means the parks department has to install a 3-1-1 line? Look, this part of the plot doesn’t really make sense, but here we are.

Sean is MAD this episode. Why? Because it illustrates everything that’s wrong with BIG POLITICS. But he sure is impressed by Leslie’s perm. Plus we reminisce about our first encounters with smoking cigars. Much like Tom, we did not like them.

Ep. 74: We’re Taking a Trip to Washington!

Welcome to Season 5! *The crowd goes wild* Leslie, Ben, April, and Andy are all in Washington, D.C. doing very big important government things. Meanwhile, Ron is hosting a BBQ and literally only has the meat, which is still alive. Which one could argue is the most important part, but still. At least give us a plate or something, man. Sean is thrilled that Tom and Ann are no longer an item.

We’re sampling Cookies and Cream Twix because apparently we’re part-timing in ASMR nowadays. We’re putting a twist on trivia, AND we’re adding a new bit: Categories! Exciting stuff all around. Joey also shares a tip for those Instagram Boomerang users out there. And after Chris reprimands Ron, we do a little roleplaying of Sean being stern towards Haleigh. How does that turn out? Finally, Sean shares a crappy situation from work.

Ep. 70: A Good Old Fashioned Political Debate

It’s time for a debate! Leslie Knope and Bobby Newport are joined by Pawnee mainstays like Brandi Maxxxx and Fester Trim. We also talk about a bunch of movies, especially when it’s someone’s finest role! That whole conversation is inspired by Andy acting out movies during the live telecast of the debate, because he conveniently forgot to pay the cable bill. *Cue obnoxious laughter*

Meanwhile, Sean is triggered by many things throughout this episode. He strongly dislikes Perd Hapley (the nerve!), thinks Bobby Newport is the dumb Parks and Rec version of Michael Scott (understandable) and continues to be baffled by the Tom and Ann relationship (aren’t we all).

Haleigh also gets down a rabbit hole with all the Tom Hanks kids. Finally, Sean perhaps went on a firing spree at work, or maybe he just fed them Olive Garden.

Ep. 67: Jen Barkley is Shaking Things Up!

We got new POP filters, y’all. And how fitting, because this episode is poppin’ with new character Jennifer Barkley. She’s leading the campaign for Bobby Newport and has become quite the thorn in Leslie Knope’s side. She and Ben Wyatt are trying to get the support of the elderly community, but Jen Barkley always seems to be two steps ahead. How can they persevere?

Meanwhile, the citizens of Pawnee can’t stop putting their entire mouths on water fountains. Ann and the crew try to solve the issue, and thanks to some creative thinking from April, the job gets done. Will that lead to a promotion for April? We’ll JUST HAVE TO FIND OUT.

Plus we’re talking how easily new phones can break, express our amazement at how quickly Sean can slam 11 cookies from McDonald’s, and chat about some of the best classic Britney Spears songs. Sean still doesn’t appreciate how Perd Hapley speaks, but on the plus side, he comes through with a last-second Top 5 shake up! We dive into our favorite shakes. YUM.

This is Halloween! This is Halloween! Sean is in charge of this spooktacular bonus episode, and you can bet there are plenty of treats. Namely in the form of several fun Halloween-themed lists!

Play along at home as we chat our favorite Halloween movies (Sean is really curious what everyone thinks about Casper the Friendly Ghost), top Halloween costumes we’ve actually worn, Joey shares tips for dealing with a potential Vampire, and we make a playlist of terrifically ghoulish tunes.

On our end, Joey is butchering trivia left and right, Haleigh knows some people who are very quick at peeing, and we give plenty of speed dating advice to Sean. Feel free to share your best tips! Plus we chat mascots of our various schools.

Ep. 58: I Hold Myself In Contempt!

Leslie Knope is ON TRIAL. What for? Well, you’ll have to tune in to find out. Plus we’re chatting about the wonders of Google Earth, get a bit nostalgic with Matchbox Twenty, the many unethical things going on during this episode, Sean’s super old laptop, being punished via caning or a belt, how many songs are about candy, and Sean’s extreme love/hate affair with football. On a related note, one of Joey’s doppelgangers recently retired from the NFL and now he’s sad.

This episode also has arguably the best cold open of the entire series. Here it is. Tell us you disagree (you cannot). Oh yeah, and Sean doesn’t even know what Citizen Kane is! What has he been doing with his life?
