Ep. 135: A Parks and Recreation Pandemic Special

Goodness, this is a weird one. But would you expect anything less from the FINAL EPISODE EVER?!

The Parks and Rec crew reunite several years after the series finale, hosting a handful of Gryzzl one-on-one and conference calls. All of our favorites are here — Leslie and Ron have a couple of touching heart-to-hearts and Donna is looking exceptionally good with her gorgeous lighting in her closet. We’ve got lots of fun cameos from folks like Councilman Jamm, Dennis Feinstein, Joan Callamezzo, Perd Hapley, and Jean-Ralphio, who is flush with cash but INCREDIBLY bored. If only that fake phone number actually worked…

Meanwhile, the writers have to get creative on how show couples like Ann and Chris and April and Andy can’t be seen together. If you rewatch this episode, you may notice a couple of the very overused phrases like “these trying times,” but hey, we didn’t know what was to come back then. Plus, this episode raised at least $3 million for Feeding America, which is fantastic.

Plus, we dive into popular club hits from the late 00s and early 10s, put on a ton of wacky sound effects, and discuss the people who have won an EGOT (they’re hard to guess!). Also, does Sean need to buy himself a coffee machine?

Doing this podcast has been a blast and we’ve loved hanging out with you every week. But this isn’t goodbye forever. We’ve got some cool things planned — keep an eye here and on Facebook and Twitter for updates!

Ep. 134: Yes, I’m Ready. *Dramatic Music Intensifies*

We’re recapping season 7! What were the best moments from the last season ever of Parks of Rec? Certainly wasn’t the Johnny Karate musical show, we’ll tell you that much. And who are the best bit characters from the Pawnee crew? We’re covering it all!

Plus, Sean and Haleigh take a quiz naming popular workplace sitcom characters, we talk about sock hops and what song would be delightful to hear during one, and Sean shares his experience of playing hockey and scoring a game-winning goal during a shootout.

Also, remember when Apple forced an album from U2 onto all of its products? Those were good times. And what are the odds that you would die on your birthday? We do a deep dive into that very topic.

Finally, what should Haleigh do for her punishment after losing trivia? We wanna hear from you! In the meantime, give James Blunt’s Twitter a follow.

P.S. Sorry for Sean’s audio quality in parts of this one. He tried a new microphone and…well, there are still some kinks to be worked out with it. Nothing like the penultimate episode to give something wild a spin!

Ep. 133: Joe Biden Knows His Way Around a Seafood Risotto

We’re finishing up what we started last episode! We see the Parks and Rec crew doing their darnedest to satisfy one more Pawnee citizen before they scatter across the country and never (or at least rarely) see each other in the same room again.

Meanwhile, we’re continuing to jump ahead to the future, from 2018 all the way to 2035. And there are lots of great questions to be answered. Will Shauna Malwae-Tweep find eternal happiness? How big will Andy and April’s kid’s head be? Where will Ron end up working? What will Leslie have named after her, and will it be displeasing? Will we have special guest appearances and will Sean be super excited about them?

Plus, how many college basketball players can Haleigh name? Sean finally pays up his season 6 trivia loss debt (check some of the footage here), the proper way to row a canoe, what Ben Wyatt smells like, a walk through the different Two-Faces from Batman, whether Leslie would be a good boss, and the best games on The Price is Right. Joey apologizes for getting the name of Cliffhangers wrong.

And we’ve got a special guest this episode! Friend of the podcast and Sean’s coworker Heather joins to chat about the grand finale of Parks and Rec (but not of Parks n Wrecked). We’ll try to teach her how to speak into the microphone next time but hopefully, you can still hear her many witty comments.

Ep. 120: New Year, New Pawnee

It’s a new season, and there’s new drama! We’re three years into the future (at least compared to last episode) and Leslie and Ron appear to be rivals now! I bet we’ll uncover why soon enough. Ben is being honored at a gala, though he still secretly thinks it’s a prank.

Meanwhile, Andy and April are boring adults, Donna is engaged to Joe and has a Shia Labeouf exclusive dress, and Tom is still being a big ol’ self-centered jerk face. Maybe not everything has changed.

Plus, the difficulty in shooting things in video games, possible trivia punishments and rewards for Season 7, the joys of those wacky inflatable guys you might find at a car dealership, and the least creative Pokemon. And here’s that Vin Diesel jam we talk about!

Follow Parks n Wrecked on Facebook and Twitter, and be sure to leave a review on Apple Podcasts. And check out SEAN’S NEW TWITCH CHANNEL!

P.S. Let’s all give Sean a BIG CONGRATULATIONS for winning his hated fantasy football league!

Ep. 119: Six Seasons in the Books! And A Farewell to 2020

Well, we’ve made it through Season 6 and basically 2020, so there’s lots of reflecting going on. We reminisce about the very first episode of Parks n Wrecked and how wildly unprofessional it was (as if we’ve gotten more professional, HA). And of course, we’re going over some of the key moments of Season 6 of Parks and Rec.

Remember when Andy had a job in London and hopped into a dumpster? Or how about the time Chris Bosh made a guest appearance as an Eagletonian high schooler player despite being nearly 30 years old? Or when Leslie Knope got recalled?

Yes, we all remember the Unity Concert, and there was plenty of personal growth in Season 6. This was the season where Ann and Chris left us after birthing a beautiful child. Donna’s a realtor now. April is working with animals, which she LOVES. Tom sells his old company and opened up Tom’s Bistro. Ron and Diane got married and had a baby and we barely heard about it! Larry retired yet he’s still working all the time. Classic Larry. And then we time-hopped three years at the end of the season!

Plus, wild moments with the wind and ultimate frisbee, an in-depth look at butt fumbles, a deep dive into the Logical Journey of the Zoombinis computer game, and a full-on reflection of 2020 as a whole. We also take a trivia quiz that crashes on us halfway through, and Sean alienates his friends by criticizing both The Office and Parks and Rec.

And remember: 2020 may have been terrible but we all still accomplished good things this year. Take a moment to reflect on those and have a wonderful and relaxing holiday. We’ll see you next year!

Oh, and did you want to check out some of the other things we mentioned? We’d love to see you at Good People, Cool Things and Crisp Bounce Pass or dropping a review on this Bic Pen for Her or the book How to Avoid Huge Ships.

Ep. 118: You’re So Good At Reminding Me Where Pizza Is

Welcome to the Unity Concert! We’ve finally made it and my, what a wonderful show. This Parks and Rec episode is chock full of guest appearances, like Ginuwine, Jeff Tweedy of Wilco, Kay Hanley of Letters to Cleo, The Decemberists, Jon Hamm, Johnny Karate, and a whole lot more. And we’re all partying at Tom’s Bistro after the show.

Meanwhile, Leslie is looking for people to take with her to her new job as the head of the Midwest branch of the National Park Service. Ron is disinterested because the government, April hates people and Leslie (but also loves her). Andy briefly agrees after forgetting that he can also get pizza in Pawnee. And of course, Larry is game! The end of this episode also flashes forward three years into the future, which is wild.

Plus, the proper footwear to don if you’re participating on Floor Is Lava, how some people only have one karaoke song they ever sing, and the longevity of the Power Rangers as both a show and video game. Does it also seem like there’s far less Christmas music this year than usual or is it just us?

Also, Joey apologizes to Darkbuster for blanking on your name during the episode. Rock on!

Ep. 116: Why Don’t You Take a Whale Sounds Break?

Leslie and Ben knew they were expecting a child, but THREE children?! What are the odds? (Probably one in 8,000, according to Dr. Saperstein.) They don’t want anyone to know until they’re ready to tell everyone, but that means Andy has to keep the couple’s secret.

Meanwhile, Andy needs to play several Johnny Karate shows without spilling the beans, April is nice to Larry for perhaps the first time all series, and Donna and Tom volunteer at the elementary school. We also meet Keegan-Michael Key as Joe, and Aziz Ansari is conspicuously absent. Or maybe he was just filming Master of None, who knows.

Plus, the history of Mike Tyson’s Punch Out, Sean delivers some ASMR via a Red Lobster order that arrives at his door mid-episode, when people say “let me know if you need anything” during times of grief or sadness, and why are we making cold, refreshing drinks spicy?

Speaking of spice, Sean also thinks Red Hot Chili Peppers and Foo Fighters are the same band. Feel free to let him know how wrong he is.

Ep. 110: Be Ice Cream or Be Nothing

Parks n Wrecked Podcast Logo

Leslie and Ben are celebrating their anniversary, but Leslie’s too busy trying to manage a spat between Pawnee and Eagleton. That means Larry is the lucky recipient of all of Ben’s thoughtful gifts, including a couples massage, a horse-drawn carriage, and ballroom dancing lessons.

Meanwhile, April leaves a mean message about Donna on Yelp, Ron takes on veganism and frozen yogurt, and a couple celebrating their 50th anniversary bickers a whole lot. We also get our first glimpse of the Unity Concert! Such exciting times.

Plus, Haleigh is upset at many things, we reminisce about the time Sean guzzled wine during his birthday party and got a bunch of comedians mad at him during another birthday party, and the absurdity of Pokemon battles.

Also, we apologize for the technical difficulties at the beginning of this episode. Technology is real dumb, y’all. Speaking of which, here’s a great article about TikTok that shows how addictive social media is.

Ep. 90: Skim Milk is Water That’s Lying About Being Milk

Parks n Wrecked Logo - A podcast about Parks and Rec

Ben ruined the city of Partridge, MN when he was 18 years old, but now they’re ready to forgive him. Surely this isn’t a trap. Meanwhile, Councilman Jamm is suing Ron for punching him in the face during Leslie’s wedding. And guess what? Ron would do it again if he has the chance.

Also, Chris and Ann are distraught after a series of mishaps. Could this mean they won’t be good parents? We’ll find out by the end of the episode.

Plus, we’ve got excessive beards, activities to do on a boat, and Ben gets misty-eyed watching The Price Is Right! We’re not so different, after all.

Ep. 87: Close Only Counts in Horse Grenades

Parks n Wrecked Logo - A podcast about Parks and Rec

Wait, are Leslie and Ben really going through with this whole “let’s get married tonight” thing? Sure seems like it! That means everyone has jobs. Leslie and Ann are working on procuring a dress. Ben and Chris are looking for wedding rings. Ron is walking Leslie down the aisle. Donna’s giving us GREAT vocals. Andy and April are finding marriage licenses. Tom and Jerry (hehe) are writing a speech.

But wait! Councilman Jamm is here to try and ruin everything. Luckily, the Pawnee parks crew isn’t about to let anyone get Jammed today. And Leslie and Ben will get their big day after all.

Plus, all kinds of drama around Animal Crossing, a deep dive into grenades (including a dissection of the song “Grenade” by Bruno Mars), and Joey is fired up about The Last Dance documentary on the 1997-98 Chicago Bulls. We also reminisce about the time our dog brought in a rat from outside. YIKES.
